Top names from all over the world participate in Discus Throw in the 25th VARDINOYANNIA

EAR is announcing the participation of 8 top athletes in Discus Throw Men for the 25th Vardinoyannia meeting.

 

So far two Greek athletes have confirmed their participation; SPIROS ARABATZIS who is an athlete of our club, STEFANOS KONSTAS, the Cypriot APOSTOLOU PARELIS, the Esthonian GERD KANTER and ALEKSANDER TAMMERT, the Lithuanian VIRGILIJUS ALEKNA the Hungarian ZOLTAN KOVAGO and the American IAN WALTZ.

 

It is obvious that the Discus Throw can only be compared to the World Championship and the Olympic Games.

GERD KANTER

 

 The Esthonian GERD KANTER was born on 6/5/1979 and is one of the top athletes worldwide  in Discus Throw. The Olympic Gold Medalist in Beijing has thrown 73.38 outdoors and 69.51 indoors.He was World Champion in Osaka in 2007 and Silver Medalist at the World Championship in Helsinki. Moreover he was for three consecutive years the winner at the European Winter Throwing Cup (20-07-2009).

 

 

ALEKSANDER TAMERT

 

ALEKSANDER TAMMERT who is also from Estonia was born on 2/2/1973 and has a personal best of 70.82 outdoors. His most important success was when he won the Bronze Medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 as well as at the European Championship in Getemburg.

 

 

VIRGILIJUS ALEKNA

 

The Lithuanian VIRGILIJUS ALEKNA was born on 13/2/1972 and he is also one of the greatest athletes worldwide at Discus Throw. He was the Bronze Olympic Medalist in Beijing and two times a Gold Medalist ( Athens 2004 and Sidney 2000). His personal best is 73.88 outdoors. He was the World Champion in Helsinki in 2005 and in Paris in 2003 and bronze medalist at Edmonton (2001) and Athens (1997). In 2006 he became the European Champion at Geteborg, In Monaco (2002) he won the silver medal and in Budapest(1998) he won the bronze medal.

 

 

ZOLTAN KOVAGO

 

The Hungarian ZOLTON KOVAGO was born on 10/4/1979 and his pesronal best is 69.95 outdors. At the  Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he won the silver medal and in 1998 he won the Gold Medal at the Junior Championship.

 

 

IAN WALTZ

 

The American IAN Waltz was born on 15/4/1977 and his personal best is 68.91 outdoors. He has participated in a lot of games and his greatest success was the Bronze Medal at the IAAF World Cup in Athens in 2006.

 

 

APOSTOLOS PARELIS

 

The Cypriot champion Apostolos Parelis was born on 24/7/1985 and his personal best is 60.94 outdoors. In 2007 in Debertsen he got the bronze medal at the Under 23 European championship

 

 

STEFANOS KONSTAS

 

The Greek champion Stefanos Konstas was born on 16/5/1977 and his personal best is 62.30 outdoors. Konstas won the Gold Medal at the Winter European Winter Throwing Cup in Split in 2008.
