The stadium of "Pavlos I. Vardinoyannis"
It was built in 1992 and is situated in the region of Gallou of the Municipality of Rethymno (2.5 km. south of the city centre) at an elevation of 180m.It was built under the technical specifications that a contemporary stadium should adhere to and has been approved by the World Athletics Federation IAAF and the European Athletics Federation (EAA)
It was inaugurated in 1993 for the 16th Vardinoyannia by the Minister of Sports Evangelos Meimarakis. The Vardinoyannia track and field meeting has taken place at this venue ever since.
In 2004, it was chosen by the USA Track and Field team in order to complete the final stage of their preparation for the Athens Olympic Games.

Location
The stadium is situated in Rethymno where you can get by sea from the port of Piraeus. There is not an airport in Rethymno so the visitors who want to travel by air can go to Heraklion which is 80 Km east of Rethymno or Chania which is 60 Km west of Rethymno. The stadium is located in the area of Gallou, south-west of the town. In order to go there you can take the High Road (Chania-Rethymno). After a 2-km drive there is a sign directing you to “EAK Gallou Rethymno”. Take a left turning and after about 2 Km you will arrive at the stadium (there are signs throughout the route)
The stadium has:
- A 400-meter track which consists of 8 lanes of elastic carpet with Steeple.
- A field for the shots with lawn.
- Two pits for the Long Jump and the Triple Jump
- Two sites for the High Jump and the Pole Vault.
- A state-of-the-art training and weight-lifting room
- Floodlights
- Warming up area with an elastic carpet.
- Stands that seat 2000 people with 4 entrances
- VIP designated area
- Press box
- 8 rooms for TV cameras
- 5 changing rooms for male and female athletes
- Medical facilities ( doctor, physiotherapist, masseur)
