Paulos Vardinoyannis

Pavlos Vardinoyannis was born in 1925 in Episkopi of municipality of Lapeon in Rethymno.


He studied Law at the University of Athens and received a diploma in Economics and Political Science.

After the end of his studies, he became actively involved in politics , to which he devoted his entire life.

During his long political career, he acted as Director of the Political Office of the Prime Minister Sof. Venizelos (1950 - 1952). In 1956, he was elected Member of the Greek Parliament and in 1964 he became Minister of Presidency in the government of G. Papandreou.

He fought against the dictatorship established on April 21st (1967 - 1974). After the period of dictatorship, he was once more elected as member of the Greek Parliament (1977).

Pavlos Vardinoyannis loved his home country, Crete, and supported it in any way he could.

He showed special love for sports, and helped many athletes and athletic clubs.

His death left a great vacuum in the support and mentorship of political and social activities of the great city of Rethymno.

EAR organises every year the national track and field meeting "VARDINOYIANNIA" as the least recognition for Pavlos I. Vrardinoyannis' offer to our country.
