Message from the Chairman Mr. EYAGGELOS MELIGOUNAKIS

In 1983 the historical athletics clubs of Rethymno "Atromitos" and "Rethimniakos" were unified and E.A.R. (Enosi Atromitrou Rethimniakou) was born.
Since then and until 1998 football was the main sport for EAR.
Everyone lived great moments of happiness and sorrow from EAR Football Club.
In 1985, one year after the death of Pavlos Vardinoyannis who was a great politician and humanitarian EAR organized the “VARDINOYANNIA” track and field meeting for the first time. Since then EAR AC has been organizing the famous international athletics meetins in memory of Pavlos Vardinoyannis.
In 2009 it will be 25 years since his death and EAR in cooperation with the Vardinoyannis family is preparing a number of important festivities and events which will be carried out throughout the year.
Dear friends, since 1999 our club has been actively involved mainly in athletics because we think that it is the cornerstone of sports.
We are very proud that some of the best Greek athletes of all ages and categories belong to the family of EAR.
Our aim is for our athletes to participate in all national and international athletic meetings and achieve the best possible performance and of course we hope that they will take part in the London Olympic Games in 2012.
At this point we need to emphasize the important role of EAR AC in the local affairs
We have to acknowledge that our society is supported financially mainly from Tourism. However, Sport tourism is an area that demands greater attention.
Research has shown that the athletes from north and central Europe choose to carry out their training in areas with moderate climates in the winter. Not only is Rethymno such a placebut is also offers great living conditions and appropriate sports facilities like the Municipal Stadium of Gallou.
By participating successfully in international meetings, EAR AC is trying to attract the top athletes from all over the world so as to train in Rethymno. In this way we have a lot of benefits. Firstly we make Rethymno famous worldwide and we also support the local economy during the winter. Moreover, we lend glamour to our club and our meeting by inviting great athletes and champions.
However, there are some improvements that need to be made as far as the stadium is concerned. We certainly hope that they will be carried out one day.
On behalf of every one of us I would like to thank the young athletes who have chosen our club and we promise that we will do our best to live up to their expectations
The presence of so many athletes shows that Rethymno has good athletes and EAR can actively support them.
Our vision is our participation and excellence in great meetings so that Rethymno will be present in every great international moment.
The members of EAR AC will strive for the best for the city we grew up in and love.
